Find out what's happening in your area here 2008 August 04-Aug to 11-Aug - Camp For Climate Action - This year will be at the Kingsnorth coal fired power station, south of Ashford, Kent. The new coal-fired plant proposed for the site will pump out the same amount of carbon dioxide as the 30 least-polluting countries combined, and will produce twice as many emissions as a third runway at Heathrow.
06-Aug to 17-Aug - 'A' camp - Anarchist summer camp in Switzerland
07-Aug to 10-Aug - Northern Green Gathering - - a small volunteer-run environmental/educational gathering, on a beautiful new site in North Yorkshire!
9 - Shut down Kingsnorth Power Station - Those at the camp will be joined by thousands more from across the UK to converge on the power station via land, sea and air. Four different groups, each using different tactics (including a group accessible to parents and children). The ’Great Rebel Raft Regatta’ (GRRR) will be launching an armada: from pirate ships to Viking boats, a multitude of different themed rafts are being constructed out of recycled materials (available at the camp.) Landlubbers can join the ’Orange Pod’ who will be putting on their dancing shoes and heading straight for the main entrance in a colourful, musical spectacle. If you're more a fan of wild undergrowth than endless economic growth then the ’Green Guerrillas’ will be approaching through the surrounding fields and woods, looking for weak points in the perimeter fence up, under or through. 10 - Prison Justice Day - To show solidarity with those in prison and to remember those who have died while being held in prisons all over the world. This year the campaign group NoMorePrison are holding a demo outside HMP Styal as part of Prison Justice Day and also as a tribute to Pauline Campbell, who campaigned fearlessly against deaths in womens prison's but died in May of this year. Pauline's daughter died in Styal prison in 2003. Prisons are failed institutions that do not work. They are places of pain and social control and are brutal, abusive and damaging to everyone who is incarcerated in them. Prisons are fundamentally flawed and all attempts to reform them have failed. We are committed to their abolition.
10 - Glasgow Anarchists Subversive Social - You don’t have to be an anarchist to come along, you just have to be interested in making Glasgow and the wider world a better place to live in. As well as the usual banter and what not there will be a talk from Norma Costas a member of the Argentinian Anarchist Federation, the FLA, and teacher at an anarchist school.
13 - The Britain-Colombia Connection - Hosted by the Colombia Solidarity Campaign. Our guests will be discussing the roots of the ongoing violence in Colombia, and exposing the role Britain and British energy companies continue to play in destabilising in the area. Introduced by Jake Lagnado and Andy Higginbottom of the Colombia Solidarity Campaign.
14 - No2iD London social - Meet the organisers, ask questions, get involved, have a pint. Everyone is welcome whether a member, supporter, sympathiser or even Home Office minister.
16 - Central London Squat History Walk - Wander back in time between 1946 and 2003 (approx.) To commemorate the 30th anniversary of the "biggest ever eviction" in Britain at Huntley Street. The Walk will take about 3 hours
16 - Shut Down the BNP's 'Red White & Blue' Festival - Once again the BNP plan to hold their annual bash, where fascists from all over the country, and beyond, gather to forge ties, plot racist attacks, sing songs about the ‘Third Reich’, and drunkenly fall about waving their handbags at each other. 20-Aug to 27-Aug - Peoples' Global Action Gathering, Athens - The PGA is a tool and structure for groups and people worldwide with common struggles and anti-capitalist and anti-authoritarian princples. 21-Aug to 24-Aug - 10th International Animal Rights Gathering - It's now 10 years since the Animal Rights Gatherings went international. Come and celebrate the first decade of international get-togethers. The event will attract around 400 activists from all across Europe and beyond. It is a time to get together and talk, to socialise and build up networks.

26 - Let Them Stay vigil - Vigil in support of US war resisters in Canada. On 15 July, Canada deported US war resister Robin Long back to the US, against the wishes of Canada\\\'s Parliament and people. Join us on the 60th anniversary week of the founding of the Central Committee for Conscientious Objectors to stand in solidarity with the estimated 200 US war resisters who remain, and urge the Canadian Government to give them - and any 27-Aug to 01-Sep - Earth First! Summer Gathering - where people involved in radical ecological direct action - or those who want to be involved - get together for five days of time and space to talk, walk, share skills, learn, play, rant, find out what's going on, find out what's next, live outside, strategise, hang out, incite, laugh and conspire.

01-Sep to 07-Sep - London FreeSchool Week - A week long London FreeSchool event will be taking place with workshops, discussions and skill-sharing. Themes will include Food, Creative Arts, Permaculture, Gender, Science and Languages. The event will be completely free and open to all people willing to respect the ideals of the free school and each other.
05-Sep to 03-Oct - Roberto Perez UK tour - Peak oil and positive energy descent are major topics of concern now. Cuba has already experienced it. An expert on how Cuba responded positively to their "Special Period" will be touring the UK sharing knowledge, ideas and building links. 06-Sep to 07-Sep - Sunseed open weekend - The weekend will include a tour of the site, taking in the solar panels, compost toilets, water-saving systems and organic gardens. Visitors will try their hand at making bread, solar cooking and foraging for wild food in the area.

6 - Carnival Against Vivisection - Make your stand against the vivisection industry and animal abusers with us at the Carnival Against Vivisection at Sequani Labs. This protest is in solidarity with Sean Kirtley who was imprisoned by the state for supposedly organising protests against Sequani. Even though he has never broken the law himself at Sequani (and the police agree) he was sent to prison under new SOCPA legislation which shatters the right to organise and protest in a free democracy. 7 - London Vegan Festival - Originally the National Vegan Festival, this year the London Festival celebrates its 10th anniversary. There will be something for everyone: children, adults, vegans and non-vegans alike.
10-Sep to 12-Sep - Asylum! Conference and Festival - The conference will bring together organisations, activists, campaigners and academics working for radical challenge and change in mental health. It will showcase critical work on psychiatry and psychology ('Big Psy') and the pharmaceutical industry ('Big Pharma'), and alternatives to diagnostic medical labels like 'schizophrenia' and 'paranoia'."

18 - Stand up for your rights festival - Now is the time to re-connect with the historic struggle for basic rights in Britain and take control of our lives away from New Labour, the state and the corporations. The deepening global economic and political crisis gives us no other choice. Stand Up For Your Rights will present in short plays key revolutionary moments from the Putney Debates about the nature of democracy, which took place during the English Civil War and the Chartists, the first independent working-class movement in Britain which set out to win the right to vote. There will be films, an exhibition, food and live music, plus the launch of a new book which shows how the capitalist state and democracy are incompatible and puts forward alternatives around the idea of people’s power. You are invited to be there and to help with the festival in any way that you can.
