People's assembly against austerity
This is a call to all those millions of people in Britain who face an impoverished and uncertain year as their wages, jobs, conditions and welfare provision come under renewed attack by the government.
With some 80 percent of austerity measures still to come and with the government lengthening the time they expect cuts to last we are calling a People’s Assembly Against Austerity that aspires to bring together campaigns against cuts and privatisation with trade unionists in a movement for social justice. We aim to develop a strategy for resistance to mobilise millions of people against the ConDem government.
We ask you all to join us at The Peoples’ Assembly Against Austerity at the Central Hall Westminster on Saturday 22nd June 2013.

How will you Stop the Arms Fair? Action planning event
In Australia, a concerted campaign of direct action stopped their arms fair in 2008. In the UK this year, a huge arms fair is threatened to take place in September, which would bring together 28,000 arms buyers and sellers. But we too can show that it is not welcome and that we will do whatever we can to stop it
Take part in a day of workshops, plotting and scheming for an end to the DSEi arms fair and an end to the arms trade.
Hear the latest on the repressive regimes and arms companies planning to attend the fair; and learn more about what goes on there. Take part in workshops covering topics from direct action to street theatre to putting your message across. Meet others to work with on challenging the fair. Help finalise plans for stopping DSEi and decide what we can do to step up the pressure before September and what action we should take if it goes ahead.
•Please let us know if you are coming, so we can get an idea of numbers
•Please also let us know if you will need crash space (a place to sleep) or creche space (for kids on the day) as soon as possible.
•If you can’t make it to London for the day, but would like to host a workshop in your area please get in touch!

Stop the Arms Fair, Direct Action Planning day!
In Australia, a concerted campaign of direct action stopped their arms fair in 2008. In the UK, a huge arms fair is threatened to take place in September, which would bring together 28,000 arms buyers and sellers. But we too can show that it is not welcome and that we will do whatever we can to stop it.
In the last year, direct action has persuaded the National Gallery to end its ties with the arms trade; it has meant arms dealers events have been cancelled and relocated; and campaigns at factories have disrupted weapons manufacture.
If you are interested in learning more about how you could take direct action to challenge the arms trade, or sharing skills with others who take direct action, then come along to this training day with Stop the Arms Fair coalition and Campaign Against Arms Trade.
This FREE event will explore:
•Why take direct action?
•Tactics for blockading and impeding the arms trade
•Tactics so that arms industry events don’t go to plan
•Building confidence to challenge your comfort zone
•Ways we can make our presence felt during the arms fair
This is what people said about the recent training day in Leeds:
“Fun environment to explore blockading / direct action strategies.”
“Reminded of the excitement that is created by NVDA”
“Great day and fun. Feel I achieved my aim for coming.”
The training will also be useful if you are interested in taking direct action on other issues. Please let us know if you’d like to come along!

Week of Action againt DSEI!
The government is welcoming the world’s worst human rights abusing regimes to shop for weapons in London. WHAT WILL YOU DO?
A massive arms fair is planned to take place in the UK in September 2013. The UK government plans to invite human rights abusing regimes, such as China, Zimbabwe, Indonesia, Bahrain, Russia and Saudi Arabia, to the London arms fair to court them and sell them weapons.
The arms fair brings together 28,000 international buyers and sellers. The deals that begin here fuel the arms trade the world over. Death, injury, fear and repression are exported from the arms companies on our doorstep.
We can make a difference.
When the fair took place in 2011, we challenged the opening night arms dealers’ reception at the National Gallery. One year later we put an end to an arms company's sponsorship of the National Gallery.
Start taking action now!
Book a workshop on the arms fair for your town or campaign group.
Find your nearest arms fair exhibitor and let them know that their business will not go unchallenged.
Come along to the action-planning event on 13 July.
Get in touch if you'd like help planning transport to London for the fair, or arranging somewhere to stay.
Take action to stop the arms fair.
A massive week of action from 7-14 September is planned to expose the arms fair and make its business as difficult as possible.
If you only do one thing, join us on Sunday 8th September for a huge protest as arms companies try to set up their stands at the fair.
Saturday 7 September – Musical protest at the ExCel centre
Sunday 8 September – Huge protest as arms dealers arrive and try to set up at the arms fair
Monday 9 September – Say no to Drones and a Silent Vigil
Tuesday 10 September – creative 'greet the arms dealers' actions on the first official day of the arms fair!
Wednesday 11 September – Laying a wreath for the victims of the arms trade
Thursday 12 September – Arms dealers plan an expensive dinner, we want to be there to stop them.
+ whatever exciting action you'd like to plan!
