Stop War Home | Direct Action Against War

Events

Actions against the war are taking place or being planned across the country. 2003 kicked off with railworkers in Scotland refusing to move ammunition headed for Iraq, the first anti-war industrial action in decades. The night war is declared thousands of people will block city centres across the country in a massive show of popular opposition to the war. Government ministers can no longer expect to carry out their normal engagements without opposition. While the bombs are dropping there will be no business-as-usual for those responsible.

National & Regional Events

22 MARCH FAIRFORD NATIONAL DEMO

Fairford (in Gloucestershire) can now house the U.S B2 Stealth bombers. In tests the B2 has released B61 & B83 mini-nuclear weapons. The B61 is for use against deeply buried targets (like Iraqi bunkers). The B83 is a strategic free-fall nuclear bomb. These are the first of a new generation of `more usable' nuclear bombs. The U.S wishes to use British soil to house these weapons of mass destruction, placing the UK in the frontline of the US war for oil. Local protest in Spain deterred the deployment of B2's there. We must do the same here. DEMONSTRATE! Assemble 12:00 noon on the junction of High St/Park St Fairford USAF www.gwi.org.uk

Coaches from Oxford £5 Tickets from Quaker Centre, 42 St Giles, Uhuru Health Shop, Cowley Rd; Inner Bookshop, Magdalen Rd. Leaves 11am.

Coaches will be leaving Euston at 9am, returning in the evening. Seats cost £10 or £5 concessions. Crash accommodation is available. Please contact us for more details. Telephone 07817 061183 or email fairfordcoachlondon@hotmail.com or see www.cynatech.demon.co.uk/Fairford-travel.htm

22 March MENWITH HILL NATIONAL DEMO

FOIL THE BASE AT MENWITH HILL SPY BASE Menwith Hill (North Yorkshire) is the largest electronic monitoring station in the world. Run by the US National Security Agency (NSA) & operating as US sovereign territory. It picks up communications from satellites covering the Middle East. It even won an award for its eavesdropping in the last Gulf War. Menwith is also a key base for the project of long-term military aggression - 'Star Wars'. To 'foil the base' (disrupt the satellite signal receivers) there has to be as much foil in the air as possible. Bring foil kites, foil balloons, foil puppets, use your imagination."
