| Direct Action Against War
George Bush and Tony Blair have launched the first world war of
the 21st century and we are going to have to answer to our children
for what we did about it. It's a brazen war of imperialist conquest,
aimed at tightening a rich, gas-guzzling megapower's control over
the oilfields of the middle east, and it won't stop with Iraq. This
war is going to go on and on.
The vast majority of the world's people, many of whom have been
at the sharp end of US and British foreign policy, understand this
quite clearly. Arabs who have seen Israel develop nuclear weapons,
invade neighbouring countries and breach countless UN resolutions
are not going to be impressed with the pretexts being given for
invading Iraq.
But this war is galvanising real opposition in Britain and the
United States too, with anti-war movements developing imaginative
and forceful forms of protest to expose the hypocrisy of the warmongers.
Massive marches showing the level of popular opposition to the war
are vital, but no protest movement ever beat a government with marches
alone. If we restrict our protests to those allowed by the people
we are protesting against we will lose - and we can't afford the
warmongers to win.
Direct action is back on the agenda. 2003 kicked off with railworkers
in Scotland refusing to move ammunition headed for Iraq, the first
anti-war industrial action in decades. RAF Fairford, home to US
stealth bombers on their way to murder Iraqi civilians, is becoming
a major focus for actions. The night war is declared thousands of
people will block city centres across the country in a massive show
of popular opposition to the war. Government ministers can no longer
expect to carry out their normal engagements without opposition.
While the bombs are dropping there will be no business-as-usual
for those responsible.
SchNEWS has set up this site to provide information about direct
action against the war. The site has
- a link to our party and protest
pages detailing anti-war events around the country

- details of anti-war resources and
ideas from the net and the real world

group for people interested in direct action against the war

In the past, people concerned at government policies have sometimes
viewed illegal direct action as a bit extreme. Blair's support for
this war is changing that. People who have never been involved in
political action before are getting together with seasoned activists
to take action to stop this war. the information on this site is
there to help you join them.
